As JLR looks to retify their sales slump, the automaker has announced that they may be cutting upwards of 5,000 jobs. These layoffs will apparently save the company around $3billion as they look to revamp their sales strategy and vehicle lineup. The huge drop off they have seen in demand for diesel powered vehicles, has also probably had a large impact in sales throughout the UK. https://247wallst.com/autos/2018/12/17/jaguar-land-rover-to-cut-thousands/

What will follow is development focused around mild hybrid systems. Not all reports point that out but its the next lucrative move for Jaguar.

The shift in the Euro market away from diesel models couldn't have come at a worse time for Jaguar. Rather than developing new models for their lineup, they should be revamping existing products and electrifying them.

The same 48V system that they are placing in the new Evoque and XE should also be considered for the E Pace imo. I would imagine that its fairly modular so it shouldn't be too difficult to adapt to new platform's.

The Evoque is launching as a plug in hybrid at some point isn't it? There are essentially no PHEV SUV's on the market aside from the Outlander, so JLR could take advantage of that.

It will work as a short term strategy but that's as far as it goes.

2020's are a big time for Hybrids, EV's an Hydrogen vehicles. The only people buying Range Rover are those who only want a Range Rover product.

Electrification will serve as an important segment of their future vehicle lineup. There have already been rumors that they may become a dedicated EV brand.

That can be said for all automakers and most industries really.

We're moving away from being a petrol based world to something more sustainable, electric energy.
