I guess we can say he's lucky it happened during the warranty term. Outside of it, would be VERY costly considering what has to be fixed/replaced.

Agreed, he's fortunate that it happened during the warranty period, I really want to know how this happened.

Yeah I want to know how it happened as well, can't think of how that's possible under normal conditions.

Hard to tell from the pics, but the damage appears to only be on the one side and in the second pic it seems that the pipe has something sitting in the exhaust pipe itself and possibly blocking it. If it is blocked by an amount, that could cause it to heat up.
