I got a metal badge from my local (Washington DC) Jag club that has screws to go through front grille and nuts to tighten from back side. Looks to me that I'd have to take off the cover at front bottom underneath the car and access from below - is there an easier better way to get access to install my badge?

Maybe not. To change a front grille on a Ford Escape the entire front end including the fenders had to removed by a Ford mechanic. Nothing is easy any more by design. If you can reach in to do anything you're lucky.
