23.000 miles rear pads rotors

Hello all. Recently our 2018 E Pace had the "brake pads worn" light come on. Dealer is stating the pads have 2mm left and rotors are worn and can't be machined. They claim it is because rear brakes are used more when cruise is activated and driver assist is on keeping distance from other cars. Seems premature for brakes/pads to go at 23,000 miles. Thoughts?

I could be wrong, but 2mm of pad left would usually mean the rivets haven't touched the rotors yet and therefore rotors should be undamaged. The service manager at my Jaguar dealer said I won't need a brake job for the life of the lease (45K miles). But driving habits and where you drive play a role.

My Ford F150 truck ate brake pads every year, front and rear, with less than 15K city miles annually but with heavy 35" tires. I began to wonder if soft pads were a new industry scam.

I hate brake jobs. I wait for red lights in park because holding the brake pedal heats the pads.
