New baby joins her big brother

I really like my 2018 F-Pace R-SPORT but my wife wanted a P300 E-Pace.. We test drove a Macan and Mercedes C300 and the Jag won in all departments. Looks, features and price. It had the same things to adjust as my car. I reduced all tire pressures to 37/32 and set tire settings to light load (not normal load). I went through ALL the settings and turned on things the dealer missed such as blind spot detection. I adjusted the hood gap so it was equal left to right. Minor things I shouldn’t have to do, but apparently our dealer doesn’t seem to be able to do them by themselves. Luckily I have learned from the F-pace forum and from my own experience.

Congrats on the new Jag! Sorry to hear that your dealer is a little incompetent, but at least you’ve got the background knowledge to make adjustments. How’s your wife finding the drive so far? What vehicle is she coming from?

She had a Mercedes cla250 with 48,000 km. In 2 1/2 years it was towed twice for alternator failure and water pump failure. The crash detection shorted out and the blind spot detection failed. Time for it to go. I was pleasantly surprised with the E-Pace engine. I was expecting something more "put putty" like the cla. But the sound and acceleration are good. We only have 200 km on it and one 15 minute highway run on the test drive so I don't feel I have enough time into it yet. It's also hard to say until I get past the engine break in period. I don't want to really push it. So far I'm very happy with the decision. So nice to have all the controls on the steering stalks the same. I was so tired of putting the cla in neutral or park when I though I was washing the window. This should be standardized for all makes!

I can see why you guys decided to move away from Mercedes, those are some significant repairs to do on such a new vehicle. Were you able to get a trade in on it? Will be interesting to see how you find the E Pace's performance in comparison to the F Type, once you've passed the break-in threshold.

The CLA250 was a demo with 5000 km on it. We paid C$37k 2 1/2 years ago. Mercedes offered us C$17k as a trade in on a mecedes GLC SUV. Jaguar offered C$23k and then agreed to C$25k. Since taxes in Canada are paid on price less trade in price this was really worth $28,250 to us. We usually keep our cars 7 or more years, so this was really just an impulse buy brought on by the feeling that the CLA was a lemon. The Mercedes salesman told us don't buy a jag, check out their "bad ratings". My wife checked jd powers, consumers reports and another site. All found Jaguar higher ranked than Mercedes. FYI I have only had 1 problem with my Jaguar and the washers that didn't aim properly were replaced no charge with redesigned parts. I'm very happy with both our Jaguars.

Good move on not getting a Jaguar because from what I noticed a lot of what's coming out now are part of an entirely new era of Jaguar. As far as i'm concerned those models have a lot of proving to do.

I would argue that most of those reports of poor reliability and ratings are outdated, and merely used as a sales tactic. Ever since Jaguar was acquired by Tata, we've seen a huge shift in build quality. I've been seeing an increasing number of Jags on the road, and that's not by mere coincidence.
