E-Pace Roars For Its First Promo

Jaguar had just set a new Guinness World Record for completing the furthest barrel roll in a production vehicle with the E-Pace at the compact performance SUV’s world premiere in London, and now the automaker has released the first ever promo clip for their entry-level vehicle.

Engineered to pack the “design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a spacious, practical and connected all-wheel-drive vehicle”, the 70 second clip highlights all that and more. Showing us various angles of the SUV’s exterior whilst it curves around breathtaking roads and we even get a few glimpses of the interior.

The premise behind this promo is just how natural exceptional performance comes to Jaguar vehicles; birds fly, fish swim and Jaguars roar.

Fitting concept as the bonnet hides a variety of 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines including two gasoline units, one delivering 183 kW and 269 lb-ft of torque and the other has an output of 220 kW and 295 lb-ft of torque.

As for the diesel options, the entry level model has 110 kW and 280 lb-ft of torque while the mid-range variant can crank out 132 kW and 317 lb-ft of torque. The range topping diesel option can produce 176 kW and 368 lb-ft of torque.

Both a six-speed manual gearbox and a nine-speed automatic transmission will be offered, though availability is limited to certain trims in the UK.

A base model Jaguar E-Pace starts at $38,600 in the United States and £28,500 in the United Kingdom.

I hate how dramatic they made this promo of the E-Pace and how much of everything else they showed aside from the E-Pace. Understandable that it needs to make an impact but this wasn't the way to do it.

This promo video of the XE is more along the lines of what I want to see:

It's down to who Jaguar thinks the buyers for the E-Pace are, which are younger buyers who may be purchasing their first or second vehicle. Then you have the sleek XE that's more geared towards the older market who's more than willing to sit down and just appreciate the ad without any flashing camera work. Not saying this applies to every buyer for each respective model, but it could be the general demographic.

Main thing is.. is the E-Pace what you guys were expecting ?! I thought it was going to look a lot more F-Pace like in the front end. Really don't care about the commercials and if they're good or not.

I guess you're right, if it came down to creating commercials in the style they used to be, younger buyers might might fall asleep watching it. Now that has me wondering what other style of commercial we'll see come out.

Something hollywood-like is what I like...

Absolutely love the J-Blade LED headlights. The dual exhaust exit and rear diffuser area looks really aggressive too. They did a great job on this.

I'm glad Jaguar didn't go with the rotary gearshift for the E-Pace. I hate those things and prefer the old school stick. Just so used to where each gear is and how far I need to shift. With the rotary, I'd be looking at it all the time, double checking that I'm in the correct drive.

It's all adaptation and the conventional gear stick is on it's way out as you'd see in the rest of the industry. I personally wouldn't have minded if we got the rotary dial as it does look a bit more premium.

If anyone is interested in the "how" of the E-PAce's latest barrel roll, Topgear has a pretty interesting video of the process.
